STAGE
3
2003 - 2007
Mantuano nš 25, street
Madrid
Between 2003 and 2006 the Antimuseum for Contemporary Art*
developed two simultaneous programms: Antimuseum
Producctions and Open Programm.
Antimuseum
Producctions
The Ojo Atómico's in-house productions constitute
a field for experimentation, where we contrast our theoretical principles
with creative praxis. We began developing a program that alternated
exhibitions featuring a high ratio of international artists with
activities designed to involve different sectors of Madrid society.
Our overall objective was to construct a Leftist discourse, in the
most orthodox sense of the phrase, which would serve to articulate
and develop artistic-political practices. In a parallel fashion,
and as a continuation of our investigations into micromuseums, we
made a careful study of models of participation.
Open
Programm
the Open
Program was a place for experimentation and the production
of projects, compensating for financial limitations by providing
a space that could accommodate work in large formats.
In 2003 was created Shopping
Room, as a complementary activity for Antimuseum,
with the objective of providing financial support for the exhibition
program and promoting new talents in fashion design and accessories.
Shopping Room was at one point the most important
alternative market in Madrid, showcasing more than a hundred designers
from Spain and elsewhere.
In
2007, the program of the Antimuseum of Contemporary Art
was organized along a number of different lines of investigation,
lending a degree of unity and meaning to its diverse activities
and facilitating its interdisciplinary approach. The open program
was eliminated, though projects fitting in with the proposed structure
were accepted. The three lines established were: DICTATORSHIP, CITY
and GENDER.

In 2005 was constituted the cultural association Antimuseum
of Contemporary Art, and this epigraph is added to the
name of the Ojo Atómico.
